From semiconductors to semi-trailers, AEM founders Ronald and Robert Koelsch have been engineering innovative products and building specialized business relationships for over thirty years. AEM combines years of education and experience in engineering, science, industry, sales, marketing and business management with patented technology to provide customers with products that are reliable, cost-effective, and commercially viable.
AEM understands that a successful business is more than the sum of its parts. We understand because our business is built on sound scientific and business practices backed by personal experience. Our founders began their careers in the burgeoning semiconductor industry of the 1960s and 70s, and have industrial experience in both computer chip and automotive production. They used this experience to develop patents, market innovative products, and succeed at business ownership in a competitive market.
AEM’s passion for bringing products to people led our founders to expand their vision and their business. After watching manufacturing jobs move overseas, the Koelsch brothers analyzed the market for products at the heart of industry and the U.S. job market. They assessed electric reefer trailers and recognized an opportunity to revitalize a product that has been central to the U.S. economy since the dwindling years of the icebox. They envisioned a process that would culminate in the mobilization of electronic refrigeration in the form of an all-electric reefer trailer.
The realization of this vision required application of their combined experience in the fields of science, engineering, and business. Deriving the correct concepts for generation of electric power and its conversion to mobile refrigeration required a solid scientific background. Engineering was essential to the design and manufacture of a commercially viable product that would meet cost and performance requirements. Delivering the product to the right customers required an in-depth understanding of business principles, from marketing and sales to implementation and management. The result was an all-new product that is revolutionizing semi-trailer reefers.

System Overview
A solar powered generator system with enough capacity to run a two or three-zone refrigerator/freezer delivery trailer ranging in size from 28’ to 53’. This All-Electrical system eliminates the diesel motor traditionally used in Transport Refrigerated Trailer Units (TRU’s).
The All-Electric is a much simpler system than the conventional diesel motor system with fewer moving parts. It can demonstrate the collection and distribution of power in a typical 24-hour workday.
The product has been developed in the field over the past several years to achieve and demonstrate 99.9% reliability. This has been necessary to prove to large operational users that the technology can be integrated successfully into their daily operations.
The 100% solar product is now offered with new Patent Pending Refrigeration so efficient it is rivaling the watt/btu capability of ammonia refrigeration systems. This efficiency enables the design to rely upon solar charging to run the reefer system when combined with Lithium Battery technology.

Solar Tech
EPU – Electric Power Unit
This is a new, master engineered, refrigeration unit. The unit is available on all new trailer orders. It will be delivered to the customer, installed by AEM and be ready for implementation to their fleet. The Solar Tech unit consists of an electric motor, lithium batteries, solar panels, and master control board, APU for shore power, compressor, evaporator and custom air control systems. The unit has both cooling and heating controls.
